Onboard HMCS Canada bound for home.
The Surviving officers are staring in disbelief over how their counter insergency operation in Mauritaina had gone so horribly wrong, the original mission was to remove the militants out of the city within a few months that should have been a simple mission, the major problem was the locals living there, they keeped getting in the way of our armed forces when we entered the T.zeina area a several weeks ago, then there's the Brown Trousers who used rather unconventional tactics against us which irritated the operations strategists on the feild, but for now there main concern is the possibility of losing there commisions and facing embarrassment. |

One might think those officers would be more likely contemplating the pointless loss of life among THEIR MEN, thanks to officers more concerned with their status and egos than the competent employment of what should have been an overwhelming force.

And it bloody was an overwhelming force, we assumed that we are dealing with a bunch of uneducated people who does not understand the basics of conventional ground warfare, but we did not expect to see them have a tunnel system, bomb drones, and planned ambushes. |

yes yes I know the saying "never assume too much", but this is an enemy that Canada has never faced before so we did not know what to expect, its unclear if the Canadian Military will ever return to Mauritania since the destruction of Maple Leaf Landing, plus they are throwing this defeat under the rug to avoid embarrassment. |

To what end? The world is quite aware of what happened. It isn't the sort of thing that slides under a rug.
Perhaps a little research is in order prior to the next foray into the world of international do-gooding and meddling. Start with a healthy respect for your enemy. History is replete with episodes of "barbarians" taking the "civilized professionals" to the woodshed. Ever heard of Teutoberg Forest? The Seminole Wars? Isandlwhana? Little Bighorn? Vietnam? Iraq? How many time did Carthage whip Rome before you he Romans prevailed? Not that the Carthaginians were barbarians, if course.
I have just heard there is a very good book from the Center for Military History called The U.S. Army in Iraq or something to that effect. REALLY GOOD example of failure by people who should have known better, and the fired or retired everybody who tried to tell 'em.
Again, I will recommend The Utility of Force by Gen Rupert Smith. There are some good books written by cavalrymen in Vietnam which offer a belly-on-the-ground view of action in ambushed columns. Combat in cities is a very difficult proposition requiring training and preparation. Look at Mounted Combat in Vietnam by Gen Donn Starry.
Should you want a book list, PM me. _________________ All blessings flow from a good mission statement.

CoC has 4 divisions from Americus Island, Monacodom, Moroccodom, and from the Balkins transported to Alabamstan. Then will prepare for the occupation of western Mauritania along with the forces there on the eastern edge of Nouakchott. Once Alabamstan is no longer the wilderness it will become Alabamdom.

Nigeriadom
"Shar Wolf reporting on the Wolf Liar for CNNN....."
"Recruiting has gone extremely well for the Nigerian Army. Those that joined the Army, Reserves and Guard that joined in the last year, about 80,000 of the 100,000 soldiers that have joined the Guard have attained Level 1. The remaining still have training. 80,000 have attained level 2 and 52,000 achieved Level 3 sill set are in the Army or Army Reserves. The standing army will be supplying the ** CENSORED ** roles for deployment.
Nigerian Guard has the largest, the 100,000 soldiers, mortars, air defense, medical, logistics and other support functions."
"I spoke with a few of the soldiers, they are ready to go get the bad guys in Mauritania they said. They like the combat pay they are to receive, their families will have more. Some have told me that many have already left Nigeriadom to go to Mauritania."
"The very new recruits have been incorporated into the National Guard as they conduct their training."

Im sorry Mech, but I have to call BS on Canadas plan. Heres why:
Canada went charging into Brazil and Venezuela with guns blazing. They made a mess of things, got a lot of people killed, and then they ran away. Somehow they convinced Australia and India to place their troops in harms way for a mission that does not directly affect them. (what ever happened to them anyway?)
Next Canada went charging into Mauritania with guns blazing. They made a mess of things, got a lot of people killed, and then they ran away. Now Canada is asking India, Australia, and New Zealand to send additional troops into harms way in Mauritania for a mission that does not directly affect them.
Nobody is going to deploy combat troops as part of a Canadian plan. You need to learn how to operate an army before you go charging off to war again. _________________ "Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl".

Agree, Redleg. Canada has demonstrated it is little more than a bull in a China shop, causing far more harm than good. It's actions serve the interests of Brown Trousers and such groups, convincing them they can win against Western interests, drawing recruits, and encouraging cooperation from outside interests that aid them. What's more, the behavior of leaders is disgracefully unprofessional. The next rocket attack could be a tax nuke, thanks to that last gambit.
Evidently, the Canadians fired all of the trained, professional army they used to have when the new regime took over and replaced them with a gaggle of amateurs who think this all is a matter of charging around shooting up the place like a bunch of cowboys fresh off the trail.
Army? Start with learning how to employ the fire teams of a squad or a section. Hire some of the veterans back to teach and leaven your services. Maybe talk to UK about sending training teams to reconstitute the Canadian army.
I would not be surprised to see the current Canadian government brought down by such a debacle. _________________ All blessings flow from a good mission statement.

the original Canadian army was never fired and replaced, they where destoryed when the old Canada fractured long ago, much of what they once had was lost through time, the New Canadian army today is a fraction of its former self, but they are slowly adopting some of the RODs treaties, and had sent a Battalion of the Queens own rifles to Grunt week. |

FOXY News
"Ms. Sugar Sweet reporting for FOXY News. We have just learned that the Commonwealth will be landing a force, a rather large force of soldiers from the Atlantic Ocean directly into the Banc d' Arguin National Park, which borders the Atlantic. It is near the southern boarder of West Sahara, which Yer Bouti controls most of the southern sector of West Sahara. Our expert", General Willow Clark is here to explain, "General Clark, where will the forces of the Commonwealth land on their assault, why would they do that?"
Gnl Clark replied, "Ms Sugar, errr Sweet, they would probably land substantial forces if they have the capacity to do so, in the southern area of the Banc d' Arguin National Park, which is near Nouakchott, the capital. The park has a lower density of people, a bit more natural vegetation than the rest of the area including Yer Bouti, West Sahara and Mauritania. A lot of hilly terrain. Those hills and rocky terrain could be problematic to the Commonwealth once they land. Great to hide during a fire fight with the rocks, caves, hills, but is it great armor area? I would say no, it isn't."
Sugar Sweet asks, "General, so why would the Commonwealth put their forces there?"
General Clark replies, "because there will not be any heavy armor there. Remember that Mauritania was and is a member of the Commonwealth, they do have military assets including armor, mortars, but they will not be able to much of anything heavy as armor into much of the area with the rocky terrain. So the reason for the CoC not to land there is a reason that it cannot be heavy defended, which would make it more appealing for the Commonwealth to assault there. Remember Sugar, that the Commonwealth has over a dozen LST from WW2 - Vietnam Wars with helicopter pads, similar number of Newport LST to use. The infatry ca then march south to Nouakchott and into the various neighborhoods to quell the fighting and infighting."
Sugar Sweet closed, "This is Foxy News with Sugar Sweet reporting good night and sweet dreams." _________________ Chris |
