Reports indicate several ships have left St. Petersburg harbor this morning. We're rushing to give this report now as troops and tanks are finishing fueling and are beginning to pull out of the forest base. Troops began their preparations late last night. I can see they are headed down the highway that links to the coastal road to PROG. We are being urged to stop filming long enough to board our GAZ Tigr truck. The convoy is moving slowly. Talking to our driver he says they have been ordered to follow the lead vehicles. Weapons are ordered unloaded but ammunition is clearly close at hand. I ask what will happen if they are fired upon. He shrugs and says they (PROG forces) will not fire. Nonetheless the mood is tense as we approach the frontier. One soldier privately says if they are fired on they will end the PROG.

This is Brett Ackward reporting for CCNN, progress down the highway in PROG has been very slow going. Massive numbers of civilians have turned out to greet the Russian forces. Many are waving old Soviet flags in lieu of the Russian flag as well as the PROG flag, much to the bemusement of the troops. Troops are hard pressed to keep the civilians back. They keep surging forward to offer food, cigarettes, and vodka to the passing soldiers. It's a massive party along the road. It's hard to hear over the cheering crowds. Now late in the day, we are finally entering Pyotrograd itself. Large numbers of PROG troops line the streets, less for crowd control than participating with the crowd cheering the Russians. The convoy has spread out to form into parade ranks on the main boulevard. Marching on the politburo building, they file past before turning into the main square and parking their troops. Rumors of Russian airborne troops having landed at the main airport appear to be true. Their ranks arrayed around the front of the building. In the main box, I can see a large number of generals, President Guroburov and Vladimir Putin! They are all smiling at the arrayed forces. Behind the Russian troops we can now see the smaller PROG army marching into the square now. Large Russian and PROG flags decorate the square. In the distance, Russian warships sit in anchor. For CCNN this is Brett Ackward.

The troop buildup along the border, ships moving on sudden orders, the Kremlin this evening explained that they were in tense negotiations with PROG over basing rights. PROG has granted naval basing rights at both ports and an allocation of land for an army base next to the Pyotrograd airport. In return, Russia has agreed to supply parts and technical assistance to rebuild PROGs armored forces and supply modern tanks to the impoverished nation. What is Moscow's goal in reversing almost two decades of isolation of this regime? Why would they rearm a nation they themselves called dangerous to international security? For CCNN this is Blake Dyson

Being the first western reporter in this nation with virtually unlimited access thanks to our Russian handlers has been amazing. Talking to PROG soldiers about what life is like, they kept coming back to getting past the exams as the main point in their lives. When I asked them what they meant, they said that every student's education culminates in a series of exams that will determine not only what their profession will be but also what ultimate rank they will attain. At that point they are assigned to their profession and given the full support of the state to develop to their fullest potential. I asked if knowing their limited future affected morale. They insisted it was quite liberating knowing their future was being planned out and laid out before them. Yes, if you were assigned to a labor team with no hope to advance at all, it could hurt your morale but everyone served society. They are surprisingly in good spirits for such a restrictive society lacking the most basic freedoms. For CCNN this is Brett Ackward.

Satellite overflights of PROG revealed that two of the Typhoon subs have been dismantled with surprising speed. The partial hulls remain in the dry docks with the engines nestled on the docks nearby. Radiation sensors have not detected any sharp rise indicating the Russian Federation most likely removed the fuel rods before turning over the submarines.
The remaining two Typhoons appear to be being rebuilt rather than scrapped in the adjoining dry docks. The other subs are clearly being refurbished and have been joined by more Charlie class attack subs.

Happy May Day everyone. Parades abound in the capital. Mobile missile launchers follow long columns of tanks led by venerable T-34s, marking the founding of the PROG military. Thousands of troops paraded before thronged crowds. The only thing missing was the leader of the People's Republic.
