IMAGI-NATION of YER BOUTI

Capital.....................Yer Bouti City

Government............Monarchy*

Area.........................23,200 Km2

Population...............1,943,800

GDP total.................$6 Billion

per cap....................$6,600

Drives on.................Right (mostly)

National anthem....... https://youtu.be/PB3i8Wftv6g

*Last few years power reduced by a Western leaning Parliament of dubious credibility.

Yer Bouti is an enclave on the North Western African coast.
Somewhat of an oddity it is often overlooked or missed off completely from modern maps.
Sitting within what is now the Western Sahara (Greater Bouti) the enclave was used as a port in the 1700's but was never favored by the colonial powers at the time.
At that time the area was never seen as having that much to offer and was pasted over by Spain and most others.
Some mid east influence made its way to the area and surprisingly British from the late 1700's.
The Duke of Southend-on-sea sailing to the new World with many women on-board got lost and was shipwrecked.
Many survived and stayed despite the harsh environment but they effected the local dialect, this hindered trade with the rest of region.
Displaced Sheikh's from the East and girls from Southend with their wisdom left it's mark on the area.
Some say this held back development of Yer Bouti for hundreds of years.

Marginal land on a small coastal plain around an inlet.
Rugged almost impassable highlands in the North and desert to the East.
There is history of a Sheikhdom from 1820 until today ruled almost continuously by the Zappa Clan.

The general area is disputed by Moroccodom a member of the Commonwealth of Chrisdom.

Armed Foces overview.
Yer-Bouti has a smaller military than its neighbors. However, its security stops against foreign incursions. In reforming the Yer-Boutian Army, most of the available attention and financial resources have been directed to the development of the Land Forces. Clashes with the rebel and CofC forces, in 2008, demonstrated the superior nature of the Yer-Boutian forces training and skills, but also highlighted the fact that the small military would be unable to counter the larger, if less well-motivated forces of its neighbours. The army has concentrated on mobility in its equipment purchases, suitable for patrol duties, counterattack plus armoured war-fare if necessary.

The fight against the Al-Kabab has at least temporarily swelled the ranks of the Yer Bouti army, with retired personnel being recalled, but the military’s size and capabilities are much reduced since the 1990s. As a result of tensions with neighbors during the 1980s and early 2002, the Yer Bouti Army refined existing strategic concepts and eventually formulated a plan to restructure its forces. Though wars were avoided, the threats from the 1980s and 2008 encouraged the army to address more effectively its major defense disadvantage: lack of strategic depth. Thus in the early 2000s it looked outward for a model of army organization that would best advance defensive capabilities by restructuring forces into smaller, more mobile units instead of traditional divisions. Over the years, the Yer Bouti Army had benefited from material and financial support of various countries such as USSR, Balzac and the USA. Currently, the amount allocated to defense represents the largest single entry in the country’s budget. Last year the army exploded in size from its peacetime standing with call up of reserves and militia units.

A sizable aircraft procurement was made from the US but a request for newer types was turned down.
Talks with Balzac for the purchase of 30-50 Leopard 2 MBT are still dragging on.

Organization.

Feb 2018 its main known units are:

One armoured regiment (YB City, comprising a reconnaissance squadron, three armoured squadrons
Four infantry regiments (each comprising infantry/militia companies and a support company)
One rapid reaction regiment (comprising infantry companies and a support company)
One Guard regiment (YB City)
One artillery regiment (YB City)
One AA company
One Engineer/demining company
One signals regiment
One computer and information systems section
One logistics regiment
One maintenance company
Five PMU's (Militia, Popular Mobilization Units) one in each tribal land.

Reporting that Sheik Yer Bouti passed away this afternoon in hospital in YB City.

Large crowds have gathered around the hospital, there also seems to be a stand off between units of the Gendarmerie and an Army Guards unit at that location.

The PM has called for calm.
More soon.

It looks like there could be a Crap ton of trouble coming out of Yer-Bouti especially with the Kebaps. We can only hope that things stay loose and not get bound up from the Kebaps in Yer-Bouti. I imagine a great deal of twists and turns are coming from the demise of Sheik Yer-Bouti. The question will be if the people will pick up and move Yer-Bouti to someplace easier to get their grove on.

Ok enough jokes about Yer-Bouti. Best of luck to the Boutians.

-Cheers Dan

A state of emergency has been declared by the PM of Yer Bouti.
A curfew is in place but is being ignored by both pro and anti government factions. Some 25-30,000 are on the streets of the capital.
Both groups are armed and some casualties have been reported.
The Army is in control of major building in YB City but so far has not taken sides or fired on any of the protesters.

The PM is calling for a government of national unity with a seat for all groups.
The Sheiks loyalists are having none of it and are calling fowl play in the death of the old leader.
The Sheiks body along with two others have been taken out of the city to his tribal homeland.

Three of the tribal lands have called out the PMU (Popular Mobilization Units) which the tribal heads have the power to do.
The PMU are local defensive units. Mostly armed with AK and RPG's but lacking any real armour.
Officially under the control of the Army, they swear an oath to the land and are 100% loyal to their respective tribal lands.

The young newly appointed (solely by the PM) head of the Armed Forces seems to have been hospitalized.
He is in a coma after a fall at the swimming pool in the Defence Ministry!

Flights out of the capital are running normally and are full.

Two people are claiming the title of El Skek your Bouti. His 58 year son, Don Juan EnYer Bouti, is claiming his rightful role as Leader and King. General Fatusa, a cousin of the deceased El Shiek, is also claiming his right to lead Yer Bouti.
.
Don EnYer Bouti is flying in with large escort from Mali, where he was vacationing on hunting expedition. Gel Fatusa is involved in developing his cabinet. Some appear to be assassins in the style of Sadam Huessain.
.
The borders of the Commonwealth are under strict control of people entering and/or exiting Yer Bouti. So far, there has not been any significant trouble.

The leaders of the five tribal lands have held a Jirga d'guinness at the sacred site in Minehead.
The late Sheiks body is there too as is the tradition in such circumstances. The Army helicoptered them in from around the Country to arrive at a rapid vote. Normal road travel would have meant days of delay.
The new to be Sheik will be picked from one of them.

The Sheik Yer Bouti is almost always from one of the three Southern tribal lands Minehead, Skegness or Butlins. The two Northern lands of Bognor and Kabab are seen as the extreme elements of the Country.

Don En from Skegness was seen as the favorite.

The meeting lasted over six hours.
We will never know what went on behind closed doors but rumors of fowl play and the deaths of two of the Sheiks guards are seen to be a factor.

In a shock move the head of the Kabab tribal lands was voted in 4-1.

The old Sheik is gone.
All hail Frank of the Zappa clan, the new "Sheik Yer Bouti".

The PM of the Yer Bouti government has sent his congratulations to the new Sheik.
He offered the hand of friendship and a request for dialog on a new constitution.

The Sheik did not answer the requested phone call.
He made a simple quiet statement.

"I ask the members of the PMU's to stand to and defend your lands."
"I ask tthe armed forces do the right thing."
"I ask the people to follow me to the capital to taken back our Country."

A dozen loyalist to Don En Yer Bouti have conducted an operation to kill the New Reigning Sheik Yer Bouti. The dozen loyalist, called 'Running Bouti', armed with automatic weapons, RPGs, grenades made an assault in Minehead. These attackers were motivated but not highly skilled or trained.
The reason for the attack is not know if it is people from Don En Yer Bouti or the Prime Minister, or even possibly from General Fatusa. They killed over 3 dozen people including some of the upper crust of the tribal bands, men and women. Over 80-100 people have been wounded.
.
The Running Bouti attack from two directions with the attack initiated with RPGs on the Governors Mansion and with AK-47 fire. The Minehead Royal Guards fought back killing many as they were cut down, only being armed with hand guns. As the attackers were breaching the mansion, guards more heavily armed stood the ground in the reception hall and all of the Running Boutis were eliminated. Two survived, but an NCO and Officer put a bullet into their head, respectively.
.
Smoke was seen coming from the Minehead Govenor's Mansion. Since that event, more people loyal to the new Sheik Yer Bouti surrounded the grounds. Armed vehicles arrived within 20-30 minutes of the gun fight.

Naval Squadron in the Santa Cruz Island group, ready to respond to any situation in Yer Bouti. Includes DDH (helo destroyer, with 4 Harriers, 8 AH Tigers, 8 NH-90s, 4 OH-1s), CN Illustrious (20 F-35, 4 NH-90s, 8 Pumas, 4 AH Tigers), DDG Burke Class, 2 Type 23 and a Type 46, LPH Jima, 2 old LSTs and FST-2 (fire support monitor). Accompany in the area are 2 SSN attack subs, the Jacksonville and a Virginia Class.
.
The riots in Yer Bouti do not seem to be about food stuffs and survival, more about the political changes. The murder of the Great Sheik Yer Bouti III, The PM is reaching out to various people in the State and other countries. Gaining support in an international basis.
Don En Yer Bouti is to be a pain in the rectum, if you can believe that, claiming his father was killed by a clan sect to gain control to then grow Poppies in the highlands of Minehead and other areas for illegal crop. He has asked for UIN protection for the Monarchy, i.e. him. The Vatican is sending 200 of the Swiss Guards to assist, expected to arrive tomorrow. The French are interested to help. They want to participate in the increasing production of oil.

The new Sheiks message to the people was clear "Stay on the streets" and they did in the tens of thousands.

The capital today was filled with 60-75,000 people all proclaiming "Sheik Yer Bouti".
The embattled PM in the Government compound had called for snap elections for the 1st April.
He also called on the Armed Forces to crack down on the protesters but they had refused to fire on their own population.
Some Gendarmerie acting on the governments orders did try to disperse some crowds with firearms.
Within two hours several police stations are over run and burnt down with casualties on both sides.

There has been some desertions from both police and Army units, including senior members.
A young Captain from the Guards Battalion in YB City had formed a ad hoc company of Kabab tribal land troops and complete with a dozen armoured vehicles had gone to the Sheiks assistance in Minehead, swearing allegiance to the Sheik as the supreme leader. More soon followed.
At six tonight an announcement came from the Al-Kabab group recognizing the Sheik as the only legitimate and worthy head of Yer Bouti. They also offered to cease all operations in YB for one Month.

The attacks by members of the Don En from Skegness group had lead to blood letting on both sides.
An aid to the Sheik had been in talks with the Army for the last few days, he carried with him a new constitution.
With the real risk of a full civil conflict at hand and growing evidence of outside political interference (continued drone overflights by the CofC) the Chiefs of staff of the Armed Forces drafted a communique.

It accepts to defend the the New Republic of Yer Bouti with the Sheik as its supreme leader.

So much for the storyline, let the new GHQ buying spree begin!

An army unit loyal to the El Sheik Yer Bouti, III and now his son Don En Yer Bouti, has organized a group of armored cars and BMP-1s heading into the state of Al Kabab to MisYer Knob, Kabab, opening fire on several groups of people, the 73mm HE rounds on direct fire, along with heavy M.G. killed many civilians loyal to the person claiming to be the Sheik. Several members of the Al Kabab militia groups went to face the army units and military vehicles. Firing RPGs destroying several BMPs, one T-55, 4-5 trucks and 3 Ratel 20 and a Ratel 90. However, over 100 Al Kaba had to be left behind as the onslaught was too much. over 20 military died in the fighting, The 2nd in command, El-Dirt assumed command when his superior was killed in the fighting. He was heard on the radio asking for help.
.
From Yer Bouti City a unit of tanks comprised of T-72, T-62, T-72 TUSKs and other vehicles left town. All members had sworn an oath to the new Sheik Yer Bouti, IV. When informed of their mission 40 miles away, several opened fire on companies, destroying 12 other tanks, although most of the company of 10 tanks was eliminated and are smoking on the highway on MisYer Knob, Kabab. The remaining units loyal to the new Skeik IV did continues, although a lot more weary and alert.

The full weight of the YB armed forces are now being brought to bear to defend the new Republic.
Not all units are at 100% but an overwhelming show of force is under way.
A heavily armed cordon has been set up around the embassy district by the Army.
No one gets in, no one gets out for now.
Air defence ZSU 23-4 and M163's are in abundance around the city and the airport.
All boarder crossing are now closed.
Air France and Air Bouti flights are the only airspace movements allowed under strict control of the Air Force.
Phone, Internet and tv are cut. Military radio is the only signal broadcasting.
The PM has been detained along with several other officials trying to leave YB city.
Any opposition to the Sheik is being tracked down with quick and harsh justice issued.

A strongly worded warning has been sent to the CofC regarding the continued hostile and aggressive overflights by drones.

"While YB has few advanced reconnaissance drones, it does possess large amounts of UAV's, mostly 122mm".

"If you keep flying your drones over our Country we will start flying our UAV's over yours"

And just when you think all the YBAF Mig 29's have been long grounded.
Last image received by evil CofC drone over Eastern Yer Bouti !

Draconian measures for a draconian dictator.
.
We may close access to Yer Bouti airspace as Yer Bouti is 80% surrounded by the territory of West Sahara and the ocean access is not difficult to close down. Now that you are threatening to fire rockets into the Commonwealth sphere and threaten our citizens, we can defend ourselves.
.
We do not worry about any Mig-29 that you have we have several being a dealer of equipment to help governments defend themselves. Our Military Surplus and Sales Corp is delighted to help you with your defense needs. As professional consultants, providing equipment, parts, service, and training, we can help you achieve your defense goals.
.
We hope to work with Yer Bouti and Sheik Yer Bouti, IV.

In Santa Cruz, the task force is continuing with training operations and conducting maintenance. Two F-35 on patrol a few 20 kilometers off the coast were approached by 4 F-4 Phantoms. The F-35s continued flying their pattern. Only search radars were active, there were not any targeting radars or fire control systems detected. As the F-4s approached from the stern the F-35 looped wide and around to face the F-4s, and they crossed each other at a closing speed of 1600 mph. They then turned again and were on the stern of the two of the F-4 Phantoms as the other two went into another direction to swing on the 6 o'clock of the F-35s. As the F-4s were being trailed they were closed on by the two Lightening they accelerated the F-35 flew by below them and out to sea. There was not any aggressive encounters today.
