The ROD is very happy to attend the Karmanaskis military demonstration! We are looking forward to the weekend and possibly to some joint exercises in the near future.

New Canada is delighted to attend this demonstration this weekend, though we are keeping our distance away from the CofC representatives.

Whidbey AF Base football field
Wednesday, Puget Sound Middle School defeated Whidbey Middle School 22-18. The 'Submariners' defense held back the Aviators to win the game. The Puget Sound MS flew back home on a MAC flight just after the game ended.

The KDF demo is underway this weekend.

There are some road closures as equipment in assembled at the School of Armour training areas.

Welcome to the 4 OG, school of Armour for this years KDF Armoured demo. This will demonstrate the Army's contribution to combine operations warfare for the defence of Karma-Naskis.

Part 1, Local Forces.

The New Local Forces are a complete modernization of the idea of Reserve Units for home defence.
LF are regional forces of the KDF composed of volunteer reservists who have signed a contract which obliges them to do certain tasks during a crisis.
The 1 OG Army works with and supervises the training of all troops. LF companies, each of which is under command of military province of their area will cover the whole Country by the end of 2020.
Most important duties for Local Forces are protection, guarding, oversight and defence of certain targets and the area of their respective district in general. In addition. Local Forces are tasked to provide assistance upon request to police and/or fire departments and other officials.
During war, LF companies will fall under direct command of their respective headquarters of their respective Military province just as they are in peacetime.
Members of the Local Forces have their personal equipment (excluding combat items such as vests, ballistic protection & helmets and weapons) at home on loan from the KDF, allowing quick mobilization of troops in case of crisis since they only need to add combat equipment, vehicles, signalling equipment and supplies to be completely ready.
These will be provided by garrisons and/or other military installations within or at least near to the military district the company in question is located in.
Companies are always composed of reservists from the local area in question, providing an advantage of knowing the area of operations.
Troops are trained regularly and their physical abilities are tested annually with conditions set higher than basic expectations for professional soldiers of KDF.

A call is made to the Civil Defence hotline of 2 cars and people acting suspicious in a remote area.
The Police respond but come under gunfire and are pinned down.

The Local Forces are called out.

The LF have their own mobility based on the area of the Country and can repond quickly (Some will get snowcats, watercraft etc).
They contain the threat, each company will also have access to heavy M/G, light mortars and even A/T weapons.
The LF are never alone, if they require extra support they can call on the Readiness Battalions for whatever is required.

An armoured vehicle is requested and the building with the gunmen is stormed.
Evidence of a bigger problem is is found.

Part 2 Readiness Battalions.

The KDF at the moment maintains three Readiness (Maneuver) Battalions. They are fully staffed, mostly with full time contact soldiers. They can complete the full spectrum of combat operations and between them offer a useful toolbox of options for the Army Commander.
3 OG Jägermeister Regt is one such unit.
The battalion is a rapid reaction force and is supported by helicopters and transport aircraft. Advance to contact on the ground is to be carried out with the units own light all terrain vehicles or on foot. The unit is built on man-portable systems and operates in a, for the purpose, composed task force. It is considered the most mobile unit in the KDF due to its light nature and ability to be transported via air and dropped by parachute, and have a good ability to use precision guided weapons. The battalion is also tasked with providing infantry support to the SOG (Special Operations Group).

Evidence of an imminent attack is found so the KDF reacts.
There is a large open area to the right of the main ranges. A C130 makes a single pass dropping a Land Rover and several Jaegermeisters by parachute, highlighting their ability to deploy anywhere.
Once safely on the ground a second C130 approaches the open area and make a tactical landing.

More Land Rovers and dirt bike deploy. With the C130 on the ground a NH-90 Helicopter flys in low with another Land Rover this time under-slung.
It lowers it's load then lands to the side to allow more troops and bikes to off load.

The Jaegermeister line up and are joined by a recce Bell 206 Helicopter.

3 OG gives the KDF boots on the ground in the fastest time possible either for recce or offensive strike.
The Commander on the ground uses his new recce units and determines that a major Armoured invasion is imminent. He need armour and quick.

The crowd watching from the stands in the safe area are drawn to the large explosion (PE and diesel) 2 Km down the range, the bad guys are coming.
From behind the stands at 100' 4 F-4 Phantoms thunder over. Trailing red and white smoke they pull up and maneuver aggressively firing flares and crossing paths at high speed.
This signifies the Air Force deploying in air defence to buy the KDF time on the ground.

The ranges are now live.

As the Phantoms pull away 4 F-5 run in for a gun attack well down range, they are then followed by more F-4 this time with a mass release of cluster munitions (Karma never signed the UN treaty).

From the left at high speed the the readiness Battalion T-90MS and KN-21 IFV's line up on the range.

The cross country performance is impressive.
Two each T-90 and KN-21 pull onto a firing stand, flags are rasied.

4 MBT size targets are 4 KM away, one after another they are hit by missiles from the first the MBT then the IFV.
LAV sized targets are then engaged by 125mm and 40mm rounds from both at a halt and then running on the move.

The final targets are on rails and moving as both tanks and IFV's fire on the move too.

The Readiness Battalions are the cutting edge of the KDF. Full time and best equipped
Hit rate seems to be 100%.

Then we are told the invasion force is much larger than first reported.
A UAV is sending real-time imaging of landing craft just off the coast plus there are three different groups of armour heading our way.
We need the National Force.

The Readiness Battalions will hold the line until the National Forces are deployed.
They have support units from Artillery, Engineers, signals etc assigned to them for the full scope of high tempo combat operations.

Gun and rocket artillery is called in.

With forward observers indirect fire is used to coordinated effect with the Armoured Battalion.

The UAV reports an amphibious landing of several craft is making for an undefended shore 20 Kms to the flank.
The MRLS battery is used as a grid square removal system to stop the landing on the beach.

The National Forces make up the main combat power of the KDF. Although the T-90MS and KN-21 make up the Readiness Battalions and they will become the standard types across the KDF in the future, the modernization will take some time.
The NF still relys to a great extent on the older late Cold War equipment.
Is is a conscript Army with some units at full (conscript) strength while most are to be mobilized on crisis only.
The main MBT fleet is still based on the T-72, about 50% has seen an upgrade program to the B3 standard. Many have received the TUSK package for urban ops after watching the mid East over the last few years.

Easy to operate, simple to maintain and at the end of the day lots of 125mm hiding in the woods waiting in ambush. It is the most cost effective solution for the KDF at this time.

BMP-2 have seen minor upgrades (heated seats, spall liners, radios) all BMP-1's are now in storage.

The SAAB 9 Land Battle Management System has been adopted by the KDF.
The readiness units are well on the way to being networked units, some of the NF units will get some connection to this system.

Finally some good old fashion war reserves are also kept.
Older T-72 and BMP's just because when TSHTF it is too late to go shopping!

In the following few weeks the KDF will be holding military exercises across the Country.
Most will be open to monitors from other Nations.
Small unit skill at arms training will grow to large formation deployments by the end of the Month.
Photos will hopefully keep coming.

The job of the KDF is to safe guard the Nation and this it can and will do.
By being open about our security needs we can continues with our small peacetime Defence Force and help maintain stability in our region.

The New Canadian Military does not like the idea of UAV's, seeing them as unreliable and unmanly, not to mention Special Operations Forces being untrustworthy and illegal. And how can you have a 100% hit rate? even we cannot achieve such a hit rate like that.

And since its a conscripted army, its hardly much a military at all.

I was not very clear in the story line, I'll try again.
Schools best instructors on their home range.
Daylight in good weather with new ammo, calling all the timings.
No one shooting back.

Missiles at MBT size target at 4 Kms.
T-90MS with two 9M119M.
K-21 with two Spike LR.
Yes as close to 100% as to make no difference. If they work, they hit!

Fixed targets, 125mm at 1000 m and 40mm at 600 m.
All fire on the move and moving targets at 500-600 m.
How does that sound?

Both systems have top of the line FCS. Both have automatic target tracking with the best video Image processing money can buy. Barrel bend and weather input, you name it they have it.

Last of all being a demo with outside bigwigs in attendance, even a miss would still probably see the targets drop as if by 'Salisbury Plain magic' Laughing

FCS: Germany, France, UK, USA, CoC ( as broker), etc.

What a Force! New Canada better not invade Karmanaskis, they would have their head returned in a box.

Highly effective fighting force, look nice.
