This is the standard mortar carrier for deployment in the mortar section of the heavy weapons platoon in every panzer grenadier infantry company. The standard table of organization and equipment called for two of these per company. The weapon is the standard German 81mm mortar, which could be fired from the bed of the vehicle, or dismounted and deployed on the ground.
