In 1942 Bussing-NAG fielded the first panzer grenadier vehicle mounting the 7.5cm ‘stummel’ for close infantry support. With the demise of the halftrack as a ‘modern’ carrier, the gun would have soldiered on with a fully tracked chassis. Two of these vehicles would have served in the infantry gun section of the heavy platoon in every gepanzert (armoured) infantry company. Six more would serve in the heavy company in each gepanzert panzer grenadier battalion.
