The lead ship of a class of 6 guided missile destroyers. Entering service between 2003 and 2008, they combine a mix of Korean and Western systems. Armament consists of a single MK44 5-in. gun, Goalkeeper CIWS, and RAM. Additionally, the ships carry a 56-cell VLS with 32 SM-2 SAM, and 24 cells with a mix of Red Shark ASROC and Hyunmoo III cruise missiles, plus launchers for eight 700K Haeseong anti-ship missiles.
