Severely damaged at the Battle of Tassafaronga, Minneapolis underwent extensive repairs on the west coast. The bow was replaced, the anti-aircraft armament and electronics suites improved. Returned to the fleet in August 1943, she participated in shore bombardment duties, the Battles of the Philippine Sea and Surigao Strait, and the opening phase of the invasion of Okinawa. Following the end of hostilities, she was decommissioned in 1947 and scrapped in 1959.
